On September 9, 2017, the Academy of Art University’s School of Fashion held its 21st annual runway showcase at Skylight Clarkson Square. The program featured the debut of 2 menswear collections and 5 womenswear collections created by 10 recent graduates of BFA and MFA. According to the School of Fashion’s executive director, Simon Ungless,
“Each collection has an individual spirit yet the process has been executed as a collective.” The program featured the works of designers from as diverse backgrounds as Qing Dao, Hangzhou and Beijing China, New York, Chicago, Mexico City, San Francisco and Los Angeles, California.
The outfits reflected a wide range of ideas, influences and craftsmanship techniques. They impressed the audience which included America’s Top Model’s Ms. J Alexander and CFDA’s Director of Education and Professional Development Sara Kozlowski, potential mentors, their peers and a worldwide audience via livestream. Each designer got the runway for 15 minutes to showoff their work and their vision for the fashion world’s future.
